Key facts about the Australian Defence Force Reserves:

* 23,0000 active reservists, comprising army 20,000, 1,000 navy and 2,000 air force.

* 7,700 fully qualified army reserve personnel, organised into six infantry brigades
and three regional force surveillance units.

* 1,000 reservists currently with ADF full-time with 213 serving in 6RAR in East Timor,
48 on Bougainville and 55 training in Malaysia.

* 15,000 inactive reservists, mostly former defence personnel who could be recalled in emergency.

* Defence draws key skills from reserve forces, including doctors and lawyers.
