KNICKS' ROOKIE ANTHONY MISSES SHOT AT HEROICS.(Sports)

In the dying seconds of a meaningless National Basketball Association exhibition game, the rookie had a chance to win it for the New York Knicks.

The ball bounced into the hands of Greg Anthony beyond the 3-point line. If he could hit the bomb, then the Knicks are going into overtime with the New Jersey Nets.

He didn't hit it. Fact of the matter is the shot was a brick. Hit nothing. So the Knicks left the Knickerbocker Arena as 101-98 losers to the Nets as 8,121 looked on.

Anthony might have gotten a better shot off had he not tried calling timeout. As he was shooting the ball, he tried to call timeout. Rookie mistake, indeed. With the final seconds rolling off the clock, there was hardly time to get a shot off, let alone call time.
